Plus, owl eyes are on the front of the face, like a human’s; not on the sides of the head, like other birds of prey. This makes for excellent binocular vision. Owl hearing is also adapted to.   Great Horned Owls are called many names, a few of them are Hoot Owl, Tiger Owl, Cat Owl and Winged Tiger. My favorite name for Great Horned Owls is “The Tiger of the Sky” and it is very descriptive of this large, fierce owl. The hunched shape of the bird is unmistakably owl, as are the pricked ears and the sharp, straight beak. At first glance, it is as if we are seeing the creature head on. But a closer look reveals vertical lines on the owl’s body —wings folded in.

Given the majestic status that’s attributed to the eagle in North America (particularly Bald Eagle, since it’s the national symbol of the United States), it’s always pitted against other animals, with questions of “Who would win?, “.

Once upon a time, in a savage country where the snow lies deep for many months in the year, there lived an owl and an eagle. Though they were so different in many ways they became great friends, and at length set up house together, one passing the day in hunting and the other the night.
